FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Assalamu Alykum wa rahmtu Allah (Peace be with you)

Dear community members,

On behalf of the Muslim Association of Canada, I would like to extend warm greetings and heartfelt prayers on the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-fitr, may the Almighty shower our communities and country with blessings and happiness. May Allah SWT accept all our good deeds and worship. I also want to express our appreciation and gratitude to all of you for making this Ramadan a blessed and memorable month for our community. From joining us in supplication, coming together at Friday prayers, and entering Qiyam (night prayers) in congregation - each of these moments was a priceless honour Allah SWT granted us, so Alhamdulillah for the healthy and vibrant communities we have.

It was our pure delight to have served you and your family, and we hope our programs and centers met your needs and expectations. We also want to take this opportunity to appreciate your donations, and for trusting us with your zakat Al-Maal and al-Fitr; may Allah SWT continue to establish us as a trusted organization to serve those most in need.  In this past month, the Muslim community around the world came together to share what we have with those who have haq (entitlement) on our zakath ( charity as a means to purify one's wealth). We opened our fasts at local masajids, shared our tables and gave freely to our neighbours, poured our hearts and donations to our brothers and sisters who need our financial support the most.

Indeed, the month of Ramadan is a month of solidarity with those in need and it is also a month of giving and ‘mujahada’ (struggle with one’s self). I would like to take this opportunity in this blessed month to highlight our solidarity with the indigenous communities who suffered extreme forms of injustice for hundreds of years on this very land that we share together.

Through the spirit of giving and struggle that Ramadan boosts, I encourage our community to take a step beyond solidarity and find ways to genuinely support our Indigenous brothers and sisters of this land as they strive to seek justice and healing.  Over the next few weeks and months, we are going to engage in education and awareness programs across our organization to prepare our communities to support and further understand support the Indigenous peoples of Canada.

During Eid al-Fitr, we celebrated the conclusion of our fasts and the blessings of revived faith that comes with the ending of Ramadan. May Allah grant us the great blessing to experience the next Ramadan.

From our family to yours, Eid Mubarak!

CELEBRATING EID

Eid Al-Fitr
A Day of Thanksgiving
Joy & Generosity

Eid Al-Fitr marks the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan. It is a festival that signifies the achievement of an act of duty and devotion. On the early morning of Eid day, Muslims come together to pray, reflect, and thank God for His blessings.

Eid, moreover, is a social and joyful occasion. Muslims exchange Eid greetings and share happy moments with families, friends, and neighbours. Eid is also a time of caring and giving back to our societies as God and Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) have instructed us to support and help those who are in need so that everyone would feel the joy and happiness of Eid.

Eid, therefore, is a day of prayers, generosity, social solidarity, and joy.

From our Family to Yours, Eid Mubarak!

Over 40 Years of Tradition

The Muslim Association of Canada’s Eid prayers is among the longest established Muslim Community events nationwide. The first festival was held in Toronto in 1975 at the Queen Elizabeth Building at the CNE grounds.  Each year, more than 90,000 attendees celebrate at MAC Eid Festivals across the nation and we're proud to be a part of your family's Eid tradition.
We invite everyone, Muslim or otherwise, to join us with your loved ones to a day of celebration and fond memories, inshAllah.

NATIONAL HIGHLIGHT
MAC National held a Remembrance and Recognition ceremony marking two months since the Mosque attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Honourable Daniel Mellsop, New Zealand's High Commissioner delivered the key address where he went over new reforms for online hate speech Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern spearheaded in Paris.

In a world where there is rising intolerance thank you Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and the government and people of New Zealand for standing with victims and addressing Islamophobia directly. We wish to give a heartfelt thank you to Shaykh Hamid Slimi who delivered a beautiful prayer remembering all the victims taken while praying in their houses of worship, and for the grieving families to find peace and solace in their loss. We also acknowledge our community partners who came out for this event including ISNA, ICNA, NCCM, MCP, MAX, Conservative Candidate for Beaches—East York Nadirah Nazeer, our unforgettable Emcee Faisal Kutty who prepared a sincere and at times moving address and finally last but not least, our gratitude to Chairman Nabil Sultan who shared captivating words full of wisdom and soul.

Towards the end, the Executive Director delivered Certificates of Appreciation to the High Commissioner, Mississauga Chief of Police Chris McCord and Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Thomas Carrique. We thank them and all service men and women for their tireless
around the clock sacrifice keeping us safe so we return home to our loved ones. May God Almighty return them safely to their homes and safeguard them against harm in the of service ameen.
